Volunteer

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Brother Benno's, because everyone from the Board President to the vegetable chopper is a volunteer. Without volunteers, Brother Benno’s would cease to exist–that’s how important they are to us.
Being an all-volunteer organization allows us to pass on 100 percent of all donations to those in need in San Diego North County. It’s also what draws so many great people to Brother Benno's; they know that every job they do, large or small, is having a direct effect on helping the poor in their community.
An all-volunteer workforce is rewarding, but it can also be challenging. As our needs change, and as volunteers move on, we ask new people to be patient as we make the necessary adjustments.
The following is a list of the areas where we almost always need volunteers:
Warehouse–sorting donated clothes, toys, and hygiene items.
Drivers and Helpers–picking up food from local grocery stores.
Clothing Room–assisting guests with selection of donated clothes.
Special Events–helping to decorate, prepare, or serve on special holidays.
Children’s Saturday Reading Program–helping kids enjoy reading and selecting books to take home to keep.
Receptionist–assisting with light office duties, answering phones, and greeting and directing our guests.
Furniture Sales–helping with the sale of furniture.
Thrift Shop–sort, stock, and sell merchandise in a retail setting.
Maintenance–helping to maintain the Brother Benno Center and residences.

Whatever you’d like to do at Brother Benno’s, your involvement can be as simple or extensive as you care to make it.

Soup, Soap, Hugs, Hope:
The Story of Brother Benno's
Life-Changing Soup Kitchen
Our soup fills them up,
Our soap cleans them up,
Kay's hugs lift them up,
and then a ray of hope starts,
to shine into their difficult lives.
The door has been opened
for little miracles to happen.

Volunteer Registration
Thank you for thinking of volunteering at Brother Benno’s. We are an all volunteer organization. Without people such as you, we would not be able to fulfill our mission.
We invite you to join us the first Saturday of each month at 9:30 am for a tour of our Center. This will give you an overview of our operations and the volunteer opportunities that are available.
Please note that our hours of operations are Monday through Friday 6:30 am to 1:00 pm. Our age requirement is 18 and over. All volunteer positions require a volunteer registration, and some positions require a background check.
We look forward to meeting you! No pre-registration is required for the tour.
Thank you once again for your interest.
