Rental Assistance Preliminary Screening

Important Information

  • Assistance is limited to $1,000 per lease for the current month and can only be provided once every 365 days, pending available funding.

  • Only one $1,000 payment is allowed per lease in a 12‑month period.

  • Funding begins on the 3rd of each month, unless the 3rd falls on a weekend or holiday, in that case, it will begin on the next business day.

  • Assistance is available only to residents of North County San Diego, including: Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, Escondido, Fallbrook/Bonsall, and Ramona.

*This is an informal meeting in the Intake Office where your documents are reviewed by Support Services staff.

WHERE - Intake Office

After you've registered for Brother Benno's services, visit the Rental assistance table in the Intake Office at the Center,  (Looking from the street, we are located on the right side of the building).

WHEN - 6:30 AM on the 3rd of each month

Beginning at 6:30 AM on the 3rd of each month. (If the third falls on a weekend or holiday assistance will begin on the next business day.) Preliminary screenings will be held each day until funding is no longer available.

WHAT TO BRING - Required documents

WHAT TO EXPECT 

Support Services staff will review your documents. If you are not missing any documents and what you have meets requirements, you will receive an appointment date and time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to make an appointment for the preliminary screening? No, Beginning on the 3rd of the month, just walk in to the Intake Office. Doors open at 6:30 AM .

How long does the preliminary screening take? A few minutes. Once this quick document review is complete, you'll schedule your appointment.

How long is the typical appointment? The entire process (preliminary screening and appointment) takes around 30 minutes.

If I received an appointment, does that guarantee funding for me? No. If there is an issue with your paperwork that cannot be corrected by your landlord or you, the tenant, we cannot proceed with assisting you.

Can I apply for rental assistance for someone who can't come in if I bring their documents? No. We need the individual requesting assistance to attend the preliminary meeting.
