The Brother Benno Men's Recovery Program
The Brother Benno Foundation began to help the homeless and the poor in 1983. We soon discovered that many of those we served were suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction. Over the years Brother Benno’s has adopted the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. The only requirement for membership is a desire to quit drinking or using.
Eligibility Requirements
Must be interviewed by a certified counselor.
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be physically capable of working.
Must be free from pain or psychiatric medications.
What do we offer?
We offer a 26-week, 2-phase, 12-Step recovery support work program for men. These men are committed to changing their lives. They work at our Center in exchange for a safe and supportive environment where Program Members are able to focus on their recovery. All of our Program Member’s basic needs (housing, food, and clothing) are provided while they work on their recovery through the program of Alcoholics Anonymous.
What Does a Typical day look like?
Program Members spend their days working with staff and volunteers, to provide services to our guests who consist of the homeless, the working poor and the underemployed.
Program Members spend their afternoons and evenings doing household chores, attending meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous and applying the principles they are learning in recovery to their lives.
We have a team of mentors, including California Certified Drug and Alcohol counselors who work daily to support our men in recovery. The team of mentors represents many years of personal recovery.
During the final 13 weeks of the program, the transitional needs of our Program Members are met in order to facilitate a successful integration back into our community.
Many of the men who graduate from our program remain connected to Brother Benno’s and return to give back what was so freely given to them.
Step 12 of Alcoholics Anonymous states, “Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs.”
